Learn to play rock drums - 3 rock grooves for beginners

I'll introduce you to three of my all-time favorite rock grooves. The beats presented here are perfect for beginner drummers. The first rock groove is based on eighth notes on the hi-hat with the bass drum on beats 1, 2, and 3. The snare drum is typically played on beats 2 and 4. This rock beat has real drive, especially at higher tempos. The second groove is a so-called halftime beat. In the context of a normally played time signature, it feels half as fast. This effect is achieved by placing the snare drum only on beat three. The bass drums are on beats 1, 1, and 2. Last but not least, I'll play a groove based on a 16th-note hi-hat. Especially at higher tempos, I recommend playing this with both hands on the hi-hat (RLRLRL...). Play the snare drum normally on beats 2 and 4, and the bass drum on beats 1, 1u, 3, and 3u. As a drummer, I'm naturally a big fan of rock music. It's a genre where drummers can really let loose. Compared to many other styles, rock actually encourages the drummer to play with more energy.
