BROTHER SAUL – Daily Devotional
Daily Bread Devotional: Devotional Topic: "BROTHER SAUL" Verse of the Day: Acts Devotional Message: (Acts 9:17) "Placing his hands on Saul, [Ananias] said, "Brother Saul, the Lord...has sent me." Observation This verse is part of one of the most powerful transformations in the Bible. Saul, later known as the Apostle Paul, was once an enemy of Christians. He actively persecuted followers of Jesus, going from town to town to arrest them and even approving their execution. But on his way to Damascus, something extraordinary happened—Jesus Himself appeared to him. A bright light blinded him, and he fell to the ground. In that moment, everything changed. For three days, Saul sat in darkness, blind and helpless. He didn't eat or drink. He must have been terrified and confused. But at the same time, he was being prepared for something greater. Then God spoke to a man named Ananias, a disciple in Damascus, and told him to go and lay hands on Saul so that he would regain his sight. Now, imagine being Ananias. He had heard about Saul. He knew how dangerous this man was. Saul had the authority to arrest Christians, and now God was asking Ananias to go to him. Naturally, Ananias was hesitant. He even told God, “Lord, I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem” (Acts 9:13). But God reassured him that Saul was chosen for a special purpose—to spread the Gospel to the Gentiles, kings, and Israelites. So, despite his fears, Ananias obeyed. He entered the house where Saul was staying, placed his hands on him, and spoke the words that must have shocked Saul: "Brother Saul." Think about that. This was a man who had been an enemy of Christians. Yet Ananias, in obedience to God, addressed him not as an enemy, but as a brother. This simple but powerful act of love and acceptance showed Saul that he had been forgiven and welcomed into God’s family. At that moment, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He was then baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. This story teaches us so much about God’s grace, obedience, and transformation. Application There are several lessons we can learn from this story that apply to our own lives today: 1. No One is Beyond God’s Grace Saul was a man who actively opposed Jesus and His followers, yet God chose him for a great mission. This reminds us that no matter how far someone has strayed, no one is beyond God’s reach. Maybe you feel like your past mistakes disqualify you from God’s love. But the story of Saul shows us that God’s grace is greater than our sins. If He could transform Saul into Paul, He can change you too. Maybe you know someone who seems too lost to ever change. But just as God reached Saul, He can reach them as well. Instead of giving up on people, we should pray for them, knowing that God’s power can transform even the hardest hearts. 2. God Uses People to Bring Healing and Restoration God could have healed Saul instantly, but He chose to use Ananias. This shows us that God works through people to accomplish His purposes. Sometimes, we are like Saul—needing someone to guide us and pray for us. Other times, we are like Ananias—being called to help and encourage others, even when it’s uncomfortable. 3. Obedience to God Requires Trust Ananias was afraid. He had every reason to be cautious about approaching Saul. But he trusted God and obeyed anyway. Because of his obedience, he witnessed a miracle—Saul’s sight was restored, and his life was forever changed. 4. We Must See Others Through God’s Eyes Ananias called Saul "Brother." He saw Saul’s past and treated him as a new creation in Christ. This challenges us to see others the way God sees them. Do we judge people based on their past mistakes? Do we hold on to grudges, refusing to believe that someone can truly change? Or do we extend the same grace that God has given us? Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing grace that transforms lives. Just as You changed Saul, we ask that You continue Your work in us. Help us to trust You, even when we don’t understand. Give us the courage to love, forgive, and obey, just as Ananias did. Use us to bring healing and encouragement to those around us. Open our hearts to see people the way You see them. Thank You for calling us Your children and for never giving up on us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
