Donghae Nambu Line KTX-Ieum, fierce competition for stops

[Anchor] By 2024, the Donghae Nambu Line will pass through Ulsan and connect to Seoul, and the semi-high-speed train KTX Ieum will run. The competition to attract the KTX Ieum, which will connect to Seoul, is heating up. Reporter Joo Woo-jin has the story. [Reporter] By 2024, a semi-high-speed train with a speed of 260 km/h will run between Bujeon and Seoul. In addition to the existing Gyeongbu Line, there will be another high-speed rail line from Busan to Seoul. As the KTX-Ieum attracts people and tourists, attention is now focused on the station where it will stop. Dongrae-gu is pushing for the Dongrae Station stop, emphasizing its location as a transportation hub. Gijang-gun, which has received signatures from over 120,000 residents, is pushing for the station to be selected among Gijang, Ilgwang, and Jwacheon Station. {Kim Seok-yong/Director of the 2030 Strategy Business Team, Gijang-gun, Busan "It is the only city where the young population is flowing in, and it can be said to be a leading city in Busan's development. I think that a new station needs to be built to improve the convenience of residents and accessibility for tourists and medical users."} Haeundae-gu is pushing for two stations, Shinhaeundae Station and Centum Station. "Haeundae-gu, which actively worked with the Balanced Development Committee to attract the station, received a response from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2020 that Shinhaeundae Station would be given top priority. However, since then, there has been a movement to additionally promote Centum Station as a station, and competition is taking place among Haeundae residents." Overheated conditions are occurring within the same region. {Kim Sang-soo/Haeundae-gu Council Member "Residents of Haeundae-eul are very concerned that (development) is too concentrated on Gap. (Haeundae-eul) are worried that the regional economic effect is being taken away from Eul."} The entire length of the Donghae Nambu Line is about 65km. It is expected that there will be about 2 KTX connecting stations. {Lee Myeong-ok/Transportation Policy Team Leader, Haeundae-gu, Busan "I understand that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is currently in the process of establishing railway operation guidelines, and I believe that there is a high probability that the distance between KTX stations and stopping standards will be presented there. We are closely watching this situation."} With local governments in the Ulsan area also making efforts to attract the line, competition for stopping stations is expected to intensify both inside and outside the region.
