What Is The Conviar YB-60? (Short Documentary)

The YB-60, the rare plane that hasn't seen the light of day for many years. The plane is not well known but its so cool! i like it so much i made this video, and, I'm making it in SimplePlanes. Coming soon... Intro: The YB-60, Convairs response to the need for an all jet bomber, a child of the B-36 Peacemaker and the brother of the B-52 Stratofortess. The B-36: The B-36, also known as the peacemaker was a 8 engined strategic bomber. The B-36 served from 1948 to 1955. The Peacemaker was one of the most heavily tested airframes in history, its pure size was a great advantage to keep it rel e vent compared to other aircraft of the time. Some of the tests the B-36 did include but are not limited to, a Flying Aircraft Carrier, Tank tracks for landing gear, and even nuclear power. The B-36 was one beast of an aircraft. But this plane needed an upgrade, the YB-60. Why Was It Made: The YB-60 was Conviars response to the all jet bomber contract, some planes included Northrops YB-49 flying wing, Boeing's YB-52, and Convair YB-60. The YB-52 won the contract, but the YB-60 was a close match, the deal breaker was the B-52s increased Max Takeoff weight or MTO. The YB-60 actually used the same engines in the same configuration as the B-52, and it used 72% of the B-36 parts so it was cheap, and easy to manufacture. Still, the YB-52 was chosen, as a result only two YB-60s were ever built, no surviving YB-60s exist today. The YB-60s Fate This plane was huge, a wingspan of just over 200 feet and a max takeoff weight of 300,000 pounds! Even with this size, the YB-60 never suffered from a crash, both prototypes were scrapped shortly after the B-52 was chosen. Even this giant plane would not stand the test of time, and many don't even know of its existence... Sources: Flight Footage:    • Convair YB60   Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair...
