구름같이 둘러싼 증인들 Cloud Of Witnesses “이러므로 우리에게 구름 같이 둘러싼 허다한 증인들이 있으니 모든 무거운 것과 얽매이기 쉬운 죄를 벗어 버리고 인내로써 우리 앞에 당한 경주를 하며”(히 12:1) 성경에 계시된 “구름”의 상징적 의미를 알고 이해하는 것은 중요합니다 성경은 종종 사람들을 나무로 비유하는 것과 같이 그들을 구름에 비유합니다 예를 들어, 이사야서 61:3은 사람과 나무가 가진 공통점을 보여줍니다 여기서 우리를 의의 나무, 곧 여호와께서 영광을 받으시기 위하여 심겨진 나무라고 불립니다 또 다른 예로 성경은 “그는 시냇가에 심은 나무와 같을 것이요…”(시편 1:3)라고 말합니다 이 구절에 대해 묵상해보십시오 이와 같이 우리는 또한 “구름”이라고 불립니다 예수님께서 십자가에 못 박혀 죽으시고 지옥으로 내려가셨을 때, 그분은 하늘에서 기다리던 구약의 성도들을 음부에서 데리고 나오셨습니다 예수님의 부활 후 그들은 무덤에서 나왔고 그들 중 몇몇은 실제로 거룩한 도성의 많은 사람들에게 모습을 보였습니다 사도행전 1:9은 말합니다 “이 말씀을 마치시고 그들이 보는데 올려져 가시니 구름이 그를 가리어 보이지 않게 하더라 ” 누가가 성령의 영감을 받아 우리에게 “…구름이 그를 가리어 보이지 않게 하더라”고 말했음을 주목하십시오 여기서 누가는 대기 중에 떠다니는 응축된 수증기 덩어리에 대해 말한 것이 아닙니다 그는 히브리서 12장에 언급되어 있는 내용을 말한 것입니다 “이러므로 우리에게 구름 같이 둘러싼 허다한 증인들이 있으니 모든 무거운 것과 얽매이기 쉬운 죄를 벗어 버리고 인내로써 우리 앞에 당한 경주를 하며”(히 12:1) 믿음의 삶을 산 증인들로 이루어진 이 거대한 구름(무리)은 히브리서 11장에서 말한 자들입니다 이들은 하나님의 왕국을 위해 그들의 믿음으로 위대한 업적들을 남긴 사람들입니다(히 11:32-33) 이 믿음의 증인들은 그 시대에 왕국들을 정복하고 초자연적인 일들을 행했습니다 그들은 자신의 세상을 다스렸습니다 그들은 의를 행했습니다 즉, 다른 사람들이 잘못된 행동을 따를 때 그들은 진리를 위해 굳건히 서서 승리했다는 뜻입니다 우리는 종종 그 사람들을 “믿음의 명예의 전당”에 있는 사람들이라고 부릅니다 실로 그들은 구름과 같은 증인들이며 각자의 영광을 가지고 있는 사람들입니다 할렐루야! 고백 나는 주님께서 심으신 의의 나무입니다 나는 주님의 의를 나타내고 어디에서나 모든 사람에게 그분의 구원을 전하는 구름입니다 할렐루야! 참고 성경 히 11:32-33, 히 12:1 NIV 1년 성경읽기 눅 12:22-48, 삿 9 2년 성경읽기 롬 9:1-13, 시 116-117 CLOUD OF WITNESSES Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us"(Hebrews 12:1) It’s important to know and understand the symbolic significance of “clouds” as revealed in Scripture Human beings are referred to as clouds in the same way that they’re referred to as trees For example, Isaiah 61:3 helps us to see the parallel between humans and trees We’re referred to as the trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord that He might be glorified In another instance, the Bible says, “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water…” (Psalm 1:3) Think about that In the same way, we’re also referred to as a “cloud ” When Jesus died on the Cross and descended into hell, he brought the Old Testament saints who were waiting for Him in the heavenlies out of hades They came out of their graves after His resurrection and some of them actually appeared to many in the holy city Acts 1:9 says, “And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight ” Observe that Luke, by the inspiration of the Spirit, tells us, “…a cloud received him out of their sight ” Here, Luke wasn’t talking about that visible mass of condensed water vapour floating in the atmosphere He was referring to what we read in our opening verse: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1) This huge cloud (crowd) of witnesses to the life of faith are those that the Bible talked about in Hebrews 11 These are men and women who through their faith performed great feats for the Kingdom of God (Hebrews 11:32-33) These witnesses of faith subdued kingdoms and did supernatural things in their time; they ruled their world They wrought righteousness; meaning when others conformed to error, they stood their grounds for the truth and prevailed We sometimes refer to these as those in the “Faith Hall of Fame ” Indeed, they’re a cloud of witnesses, of people, and everyone with his own glory Hallelujah! CONFESSION I’m a tree of righteousness, planted by the Lord; I’m a water-carrying cloud, expressing the righteousness of the Lord and communicating His salvation everywhere and to every man Hallelujah!
