The Art of Cozy Living in the Countryside| Small Joys of Life in a Cottage Home: Cooking & Sewing American Berry Pie Ingredients: For the filling: • 300–400 g mixed berries (fresh or frozen) • 70 g sugar • 1 tbsp cornstarch For the dough: • 200 g all-purpose flour • 1 tsp baking powder • ½ tsp salt • 100 g unsalted butter, cold and cubed • 60 g cold milk Instructions: 1. Prepare the filling: In a bowl, mix the berries with sugar and cornstarch. Set aside while you prepare the dough. 2. Make the dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the cold butter and cut it into the flour using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pour in the cold milk and mix until the dough just comes together. Do not overmix. 3. Assemble the pie: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Roll out the dough and place it into a pie dish, trimming the edges. Pour the berry filling into the crust and spread evenly. If desired, you can decorate the top with dough cut-outs or a lattice crust using extra dough. 4. Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Let the pie cool slightly before serving.
