King Solomon had to let go of his ego in order to be open to receive God's wisdom. If we wish to receive the divine we have to let go of any worldly things we may be clinging to. In Jesus' parables this is what the merchant did in order to obtain a pearl of great price and the hidden treasure. They had to let go. We have to be open to see and receive what God is offering.
