4 Bible Promises to Stand on In Difficult Times
Will I trust the Lord in the face of dire circumstances? The loss of a spouse? A child? A lifelong friend? My livelihood or dreams? Will I maintain trust if I lose all I hold dear? Difficulties will come. In 1 Peter 4:12, we are warned not to even be surprised when they come. “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you”. 1. When the trials come, our first response is often to ask “why?” Knowing the answer to “why?” seldom brings peace. Trusting God does. “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You!” (Isaiah 26:3) 2. Peace comes from trusting God even when I don’t know the answer to why. When I choose to trust in Him, His word promises that those who trust in the Lord will not be disappointed (Romans 10:11). 3. When I commit my way to the Lord and trust Him, He promises to act on my behalf. “Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He will do it.” (Psalm 37:5) 4. When I choose to trust in Him, He promises He will help me. He will be my shield. “As you who fear the Lord, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield.” (Psalm 115:11) When situations do not enfold according to my plan or my vision, even when I don’t know the answer to “why?”, He asks me to trust Him. I realize that I don’t have to understand the “why?”. I choose to trust in the One who embodies perfect love. The One whose love casts out fear and brings peace despite my circumstances. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear”. (1 John 4:18) Because of Him Hope Prevails!
