Old Fashioned CINNAMON ROLLS Recipe! Vintage 1938 Recipe!
This old fashioned cinnamon roll recipe comes from The Watkins Cookbook which is from 1938. You can put whatever you want in the filling. A 9 inch cake pan works well for this recipe. I put a simple icing on the top. The icing consisted of powdered sugar, vanilla, and half and half. 1 cup milk, scalded and cooled 1 TSP salt 2 TBSP sugar 4 TBSP butter 1 compressed yeast cake (or 1 envelope yeast) 3 cups sifted flour (you may need more or less) 1/2 cup currants or raisins (optional) Topping 5 rounded TBSP sugar 1 TSP cinnamon Melted butter Place milk, salt, sugar, and butter in mixing bowl and blend. Add yeast and half the flour. Beat. Add the remaining flour and knead until a smooth dough forms. Place dough in a greased bowl and spread with melted butter. Cover and let rise until its doubled in size, 2-3 hours. Knead, roll into a rough rectangle that's about 1/2 inch thick. Spread with melted butter and sprinkle with topping. Roll up from the long side of the rectangle and cut into 1 inch pieces. Place into greased pan and cover with melted butter. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour. Bake in a 400F oven for about 20 minutes or until down. Music curtesy of Epidemic Sound Song: Sweet Sweet Honey Artist: Birdies Song: One Nation Artist: White Drift
