Like flying by the seat of your pants, experiencing each emotional twist and character turn the moment they pop up. There are those who claim this to be the truest form of storytelling. But then, there are those who violently - okay maybe not violently, but you get the picture - disagree with this approach. These people are often referred to as “Plotters”; those who rigidly research character profiles, orchestrate reoccurring plot points and outline extensively detailed maps of the entire story, all before banging out the first “Once upon a time…” I think I know into which camp I fall, but is it the right one for me? Am I following the best practice possible to become the prolific novelist I wish to be? And I know the standard answer would be “But surely you can be both”, but it’s not like writing with a pen AND a pencil; it’s more like working with a quill or a laptop - you might use both, but you’ll use one more than the other. So in this video, I ask 15 Experts if they are Pantsers or Plotters.
