Legal Services Corporation 50th Anniversary Forum - Remarks from Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon
State and federal government leaders and notable advocates for access to justice met at the Legal Services Corporation’s (LSC) celebration of its 50th anniversary on Tuesday, April 9 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. The series of events featured a luncheon, afternoon forums on closing the justice gap and a 50th Anniversary Gala. The largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans, LSC was established by Congress in 1974 with the mission of promoting equal access to justice in our nation and providing high- quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans. To mark this historic anniversary, LSC’s events carried the theme of its 50th anniversary outreach campaign “Protecting the Promise.” Here, LSC Board Member, John Malcolm, introduces Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-5), who addressed the audience about the importance of communicating the value of legal aid work to members of Congress and other elected officials.
