Every year, the legendary Tall Ships Races transforms a European port into a true celebration of the sea, sailing, and adventure. In 2026, Stavanger, one of the most beautiful cities on Norway's west coast, had the honor of hosting hundreds of young sailors and dozens of magnificent tall ships. For a few days, the city completely changes its rhythm. Flags of dozens of countries flutter over the harbor, many different languages can be heard in the streets, and everywhere you see the smiles of people united by their love of the sea, travel, and history. On these days, Stavanger is filled with the spirit of maritime adventure, as if transported back to the age of great sailing expeditions. The Tall Ships Races is one of the world's most famous international regattas for training tall ships. Its main goal is not winning races, but bringing together young people from different countries to learn seamanship and exchange experiences and cultures. Aboard these legendary sailing ships, young participants receive real sea training, learn to work as a team, and every host city becomes part of this remarkable international celebration. Norway's west coast is famous for its changeable weather, and this year Stavanger welcomed guests with overcast skies, strong winds, and rain. Yet it was the wind that made the sailing ships look even more impressive. Bright flags fluttered proudly from the masts, filling the harbor with color even during the grayest hours. One of the most anticipated events was the crew parade. Even before it began, we managed to board several ships and witness the preparations firsthand. The crews applied bright makeup, adjusted their costumes, rehearsed dances, chants, and performances. It was clear that each crew wanted to give the spectators a real celebration. And they truly succeeded! The streets of Stavanger turned into a huge stage, filled with music, dancing, laughter, vibrant costumes, and an incredible atmosphere. Then a small miracle happened. After the parade, the clouds briefly parted, and the sun illuminated the harbor. Its rare rays made the snow-white sails sparkle, and in the evening nature presented another surprise—a beautiful sunset over the sea. Yes, it was very windy, but after all, the wind has always been a sailboat's best friend. But every celebration must come to an end. Saturday was the day to say goodbye to the regatta. As the ships began to leave the harbor, it seemed as though even the sky was reluctant to let them go, weeping in torrential rain. It's always a joy to welcome The Tall Ships Races, but it's equally sad to see this amazing festival come to an end. Despite the downpour, the residents of Stavanger came out to see the ships off. Thousands gathered on the Vågen quay and at the Tungenes lighthouse to watch for the last time as the majestic sailboats, one after another, disappeared into the fog, heading off to new adventures and new shores. People waved flags until the last silhouettes of the ships disappeared over the horizon. Perhaps it's at moments like these that you truly understand the famous Norwegian proverb: "There's no bad weather, only bad clothing." And, frankly... we must have been wearing exactly that kind of clothing. 😄 Despite our raincoats, we were completely soaked while filming the ships' departure. But it was worth it. We sincerely hope this film captures the incredible atmosphere that The Tall Ships Races creates every year—where history meets modernity, people from different countries become one big team, and the sea once again reminds us why it has always inspired travelers.
