Straw vs Hay for Grass Seed
Straw is made of dried stalks of cereal grains. Straw is processed after the seeds have been removed, thus created a clean mulch that will not grow any weeds. Hay, on the other hand is obtained from growing plants that have seeds. Hay bales often contain seeds that might contaminate your new grass seed and encourage the growth of weeds or Orchard/Field grass which can be very tough to get rid of.
