Genesis 41-42 | Joseph Interprets Pharaoh's Dreams and Becomes Governor of Egypt Genesis 41-42 tells the story of Joseph interpreting Pharaoh's dreams and becoming the ruler of Egypt. Pharaoh had two dreams that troubled him and he asked his wise men to interpret them, but they were unable to. Then, a man in prison named Joseph, who had the ability to interpret dreams, was brought to Pharaoh. Joseph interpreted the dreams as predicting seven years of plenty, followed by seven years of famine. He advised Pharaoh to prepare for the famine by storing up grain during the years of plenty. Impressed by Joseph's wisdom, Pharaoh made him the governor of Egypt and put him in charge of the preparations for the famine.
