EDGAR WRIGHT’S THE RUNNING MAN (2025) — TRUE TO THE STEPHEN KING BOOK?
Edgar Wright has finally delivered his long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man — and this time, it actually mimics the book. Wright first read the novel as a teenager, but it wasn’t until 2017 that he felt truly ready to take on the challenge of bringing King’s brutal, dystopian vision to the big screen. If you caught his interview with Seth Meyers, you already know the story: Edgar literally took a cab straight to Stephen King’s home just to pitch the idea and convince him to give his blessing. Not only did Wright need King’s approval, but he also needed lead star Glenn Powell to sign off on the script as well. 🎬 The 1987 Running Man — A Childhood Classic I was just six years old when the 1987 Running Man hit HBO—back when tube TVs dominated living rooms and cable was the only gateway to movies. Arnold Schwarzenegger was at the peak of his action-hero era with Predator, The Running Man, and Total Recall. What made the original fun was the wild concept: throw everyday people into a gladiator-style death arena and televise it. If you’ve never seen the original film or read the book, now is the perfect time—especially with the new adaptation officially out. 💬 Arnold’s Approval Edgar Wright and Glenn Powell both felt it was important to show Arnold the new film and get his take. And yes—Arnold gave it his stamp of approval. Now the question is… did he see it in the biggest possible format? IMAX maybe? 🍿 How Will You See It? The new Running Man sits at a 69% on Rotten Tomatoes, and while some believe it may flop, there’s a real chance it holds the #1 box office spot this weekend. The real question: How will YOU experience it? IMAX Dolby Cinema 4DX (I’ve never tried 4DX but this one might be worth it!) With a cast featuring Glenn Powell, Coleman Domingo, Josh Brolin, Katy O’Brian, Lee Pace, William H. Macy, and Michael Cera—there are plenty of reasons to check this film out. I saw Predator: Badlands in IMAX and had a blast… The Running Man might be my next big-screen experience.
