Making Deciduous Bonsai From Nursery Stock (Part 1)

I'm training two pieces of deciduous nursery material as bonsai. I have a hornbeam and a field maple, both purchased from a tree nursery for very little money. In part 1 of this series, I am drastically pruning the trunks in order to reduce the height of them, and encourage new growth lower down. Creating bonsai from deciduous material that is essentially just a trunk takes time.
