
Stop Feeding the Dead Man (4/26/23)
Today’s sermon is over Romans 6:1-23 and what it means to be dead to sin and alive in Christ! Discussion Questions: 1. What did you think about German Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s story? What stood out? 2. Romans 6:1-2 Do you ever take the good news of the Gospel and God’s forgiveness for granted? Why is that? 3. Romans 6:6-7 What did you think about the illustration being chained to your dead self and being able to have the choice of who you feed? 4. Romans 6:11-12 - How can we keep this command to not let sin control the way we live, to not give in to its desires? We can take the following steps; (Discuss through each) 1. Identify our personal weaknesses 2. Recognize the things that tempt us 3. Stay away from sources of temptation 4. Practice self-restraint 5. Consciously invest our time in good habits and service 6. Lean on God’s strength and grace 7. Let the peace of Christ fill our hearts 5. Romans 6:13 In what ways can you be used as an instrument for righteousness? 6. Discuss this Westminster Shorter Catechism Question #1 Question: “What is the chief end of man?” (1 Cor. 6:20, 1 Cor. 10:31, Romans 11:36) Answer: “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.” (Psalm 16:5-11, Psalm 144:15, Isaiah 12:2 What does it mean that the purpose our life is to glorify God and enjoy Him? How do we do that? 7. Romans 6:21-22 How has past sins effected your present? How can your current sin effect your future? What are ways we can take action today against this and feed ourselves with righteous things?
