Solo Overnighter | -11°C / 12°F | No Shelter | Reindeer Stew | From Dusk Till Dawn

I head out for a short overnighter all alone in the winter forest where an cold winds from the arctic drop the temperatures to - 11°C / 12°F at night. I build no shelter and use the US Army modular sleep system together with a Helikon Tex Swagman Roll. After a hike through the winter landscape I find a nice spot toe setup camp. All I need is my sleeping mat and the sleep system. I use a saw that I have built myself in order to cut some fire wood. I use my ESEE 5 knife to process the wood and to start a small fire in my hobo stove. I boil water in my Trangia tea kettle and prepare an arctic field ration titled "Reindeer Stew". Before I go to sleep the temperature drops to -7°C. I fall asleep watching the stars in the crystal clear sky. The next morning it is -11°C.
