Beloved, I charge you before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who testified to the truth before Pontius Pilate: 14 Keep your command without blemish until the glorious appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 This revelation will be made at the right time by the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal power. Amen. Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Responsory Psalm 99 Gospel (Luke 8:4-15) Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Blessed are those who observe the word of the Lord with an upright heart and who bear much fruit, persevering to the end! A reading from the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord. At that time, 4 a great crowd gathered, and people from every town came to Jesus. Then he told this parable: 5 "A sower went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell along the path; it was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the air ate it up. 6 Other seed fell on the rocks; it sprang up, and then withered away because there was no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns; the thorns grew up with it and choked it. 8 Other seed fell on good soil; it sprang up and bore fruit a hundredfold." After saying this, Jesus called out, "Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear." 9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 Jesus answered, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God. But to others it has been given only in parables, so that by looking they may not see, and by hearing they may not understand. 11 This is what the parable means: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the path are those who have heard, but then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rock are those who, upon hearing, receive the word with joy. But they have no root; they believe for a while, but in time of temptation they fall away. 14 The seed among the thorns stands for those who hear, but as time goes by they are choked by worries, wealth, and pleasures of this life, and they do not mature. 15 And the seed on good soil stands for those who, with a good and generous heart, hear the word and keep it, and it bears fruit with perseverance." —Word of Salvation. — Glory to you, Lord.
