Primatia / Kagwerks Extended Slide Release - Is it Worth the money?

Is the primatia or Kagwerks Glock extended slide release worth it? Today we're going to take a closer look at this Gucci upgrade. Is it a good purchase? Why would somebody spend $50 on this when an OEM slide release is like $10. The answer is that it really depends on your grip style. The fact of the matter is that moving the slide release control up and out of the way is annoying, especially if you've drilled on the same pistol for years. From muscle memory I keep jumping up and trying to hit the slide release in the old position, where it would be on every single other pistol. Multiple times in open gym after having installed this, I've tried to hit the slide release where I think it should be, and then have found that it isn't there. I'm still not totally used to going higher on the slide release, and it adds to the lack of familiarity I have with this pistol. You could also make the argument that this is a case for always going over the pistol and racking the slide, which I may honestly switch over to if I continue using this, as I know that that technique will work with every handgun I own. The tradeoff here and general thinking is that if you're at the point of doing an emergency reload something has gone very, very wrong, so this should be a rare event. You're trading the inconvenience of relocating the slide release for an advantage in terms of gripping the pistol. If you have what we call an active style grip, that is, a grip where you cant your support hand parallel to the slide in order to get more surface area contact with the frame of the pistol, moving the slide release up lets you grip the pistol extremely tightly and lets you get really high up on the frame. I've had it with standard slide releases that I've gripped so tight and high that my support hand has bumped the slide release as the gun recoils, locking the slide back prematurely. So this eliminates that from happening and lets you focus on just gripping as tight as you can with that support hand. However if you have a traditional weaver style grip, honestly this won't make any difference for you because the slide release was never in your way to begin with. The other disadvantage of this control is that it can run against the side of your slide and mark it up. If you care deeply about aesthetics you probably won't like that. This is another Glock upgrade I'm honestly on the fence with. It's going to force me to change something about my muscle memory, whether that's getting used to going high on the slide release or always going up and over to rack the gun.
