Split Cone Geyser (HD)
------------------- Split Cone Geyser Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano (northwestern Wyoming, USA). Split Cone Geyser is in the Old Faithful Group of Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin. It erupts from a large mound on the southwestern side of Old Faithful Geyser. The diameter of Split Cone’s mound ranges from about 40 to 50 meters across. Eruptions involve low to very low splashing and increased steaming from the small summit vent, which is surrounded by a gray geyserite shield. Most of Split Cone’s mound is weathered geyserite. Before spring 2017, eruptions were sporadic, but were typically 11 to 13 minutes in duration. Since late April 2017, Split Cone Geyser has been erupting semi-regularly, with ~11 to 19 minute long eruptions every two hours or so.
