It’s high time we go back to one of our original show on this channel that we call Dos- the greatest duets of the rock era.. Last time we covered Close my eyes forever by Ozzy Osborne an Lita Ford Today we are going to go behind a power house duet that seemed to good to be true. It brought together an all time legend with a promising young rookie. I Knew You Were Waiting For me by one of the greatest singers ever. Ever. Aretha Franklin paired with George Michael who was about to blast off into the stratosphere with Faith, which in my view is a finalist for the greatest pop record ever. ever. I’ve made it no secret how I feel about George. He’s a special talent. and if you want to know how special just go listen to I Knew You Were Waiting For me. . He goes up against the greatest of all time and it’s reminiscent of the original Rocky. He holds his own and gets in plenty of soul that at least matches the Queen of Soul. This is the story of one of the greatest duets of the 80s as told by the man the myth the legend Narada Michael Walden, one of my very favorite people, not just in music but one of my favorites period. He’s salt of the earth, genuine, the real deal, Legendary as a drummer, songwriter and producer. He was the one who orchestrated this number one smash, standing there side by side with Aretha and George as the producer. Narada was coming off writing and producing Aretha and her big comeback record Freeway of Love, that won her, her 12th grammy award and was her biggest hit in 12 years. Narada Michael Walden actually is one of only a few producers in history to replace himself at number one on the billboard hot 100. He was at number one in early April as the producer of Starships smash hit Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now which spent two weeks at the top until it was replaced by Aretha and George and well, I’ll have Narada tell you the rest as he was there. As we get into this story I want to thank our sponsor Zennie eyewear, the glasses I always wear.
