Tensions between EU & UK over Northern Ireland protocol, could Gibraltar's treaty talks be halted?
The political tension between the UK and the EU around Northern Ireland’s post-Brexit trading deal has significantly intensified, as the eighth round of talks on the future EU relationship treaty for Gibraltar take place in London. Boris Johnson’s government has signalled its intention to announce plans next week to tear up trading arrangements for Northern Ireland agreed with the EU as part of the Withdrawal Agreement, which left the British territory following EU rules for trading in goods, creating a border in the North Sea. The European Commission itself has said it is an international agreement and its renegotiation is not an option.
