The Caspian Sea holds the title of the largest lake in the world by surface area. This vast body of water borders five countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan. The Caspian Sea has a surface area of approximately 371,000 square kilometers (143,000 square miles), which is larger than the combined surface area of the next two largest lakes, Superior and Victoria.
