The rule of law dispute between Hungary and the European Union looms large today as EU finance and economy ministers meet in Brussels. The EU Commission has proposed freezing more than seven billion euros in funding to Hungary, until Budapest makes progress in its anti-corruption reforms. Inflation in Hungary is running at around twenty percent, and the EU funds could help to stabilize the economy.
