SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a portion of the beach in Santa Monica was closed after large amounts of a white substance washed ashore. Officials report that the 1500 to 1700 block of Santa Monica beach and adjacent waters were being evacuated due to the incident on Wednesday night. Several agencies, including the Santa Monica Fire Department, Santa Monica Police Department, Los Angeles County Lifeguards, and a hazardous materials team have been dispatched to the scene. Footage overhead showed white chunks of the substance and authorities were posting signs in the area.
