The First Baptist Church in America Sunday December 15 2024
Welcome to this celebration of "A Blue Christmas' on the Third Sunday of Advent. Pastor Jamie Washam's message is entitled 'The Longest Night' and our scripture is from Isaiah Chapter 9 Verse 2, read by Worship Leader Steven Seay. The choir sings hymns and anthems under the direction of Minister of Music Stephen Martorella. Selections include the Medieval Latin hymn 'Creator of the stars of night', 'O come, O come Emmanuel', and David Hurd's setting of Richard Wilbur's poem "A Stable Lamp is Lighted.' Next Sunday our 11 AM service will be devoted to a carol sing. Mr. Martorella will speak on the origins of some of our favorite carols and customs at the 10 AM Forum, and at 2 PM international jazz artist Greg Abate joins our Minister of Music in a concert of 'Candles, Carols, n' Jazz' - free and open to the public. Next week our Christmas Eve Service begins with the organ preludes at 7:30 PM followed by our Service of Lessons and Carols at 8 PM.
