Lady Gangster (1942) - The Stolen Fortune | Faye Emerson, Frank Wilcox & Julie Bishop

Lady Gangster follows Dot Burton (Faye Emerson) , an aspiring actress who agrees to help a gang of bank robbers during a bank heist. Using a small dog as part of the distraction, Dot helps the gang enter the bank before opening time, but the robbery falls apart when police interfere with the escape. While the other gang members get away, Dot is arrested after the police become suspicious of her story. Although district attorney Lewis Sinton (Herbert Rawlinson) pressures her to betray the gang, Dot refuses to cooperate. Radio commentator Kenneth Phillips (Frank Wilcox), who knew Dot when they were younger, initially believes she is innocent and tries to help her. But before going to prison, Dot secretly steals the stolen $40,000 from her accomplices and hides it herself after overhearing the gang planning to keep her share of the money. Inside prison, Dot becomes involved in conflicts with several inmates, especially Lucy Fenton (Ruth Ford) and Deaf Annie (Dorothy Adams), who discover she knows where the hidden money is located. Meanwhile, the gang outside prison continues searching for the missing cash. After misunderstandings and manipulation nearly destroy Kenneth’s trust in her, Dot eventually escapes from prison to warn him that the gang plans to kill him. Scene: Dot helps the gang rob a bank, but she’s the one who gets caught.
