Messenger of the Covenant - Contemporary Worship for December 18th, 2022

Welcome to La Jolla Pres Online Worship, we're excited that you're joining us! Today is the fourth Sunday of Advent, Pastor Paul is preaching, and The La Jolla Brass is helping lead worship. This Season we're looking at the Christmas story through the lens of the old testament prophets; The prophets of the Old Testament knew that the Messiah was coming. As they shared God’s word with Israel they spoke of the one who would help people know how to walk in God’s paths. They spoke of a righteous savior who would delight and rejoice in his people and would be the messenger of God’s covenant. The text is Malachi 3:1-4, and the sermon title is Messenger of the Covenant. Malachi’s proclamation may strike a discordant tone with our Advent expectations, but the purpose of divine judgment is not to punish but to prepare the way of the Lord. It is to bring restoration and renewed life. It is to train the people in obedience to the covenant so that they may offer reverent praise.
