Deliver my soul from the destroyers; my only one (3173 יָחִיד only, only son, beloved, only one, desolate, only son, lonely) from the lions. Habakkuk 1:13 Psalm 22:20 How long, Lord, will you watch?... The psalmist firmly believed in God's omniscience and was convinced that He sees all that has been done. In the course of redemptive history, David was the only one, and because he knew that God had raised up His only Son, Christ, he was able to overcome the times of loneliness, desolation, and despair that came to him from time to time. He was able to endure hardship because he saw the victory of the only one, Jesus Christ, in his suffering. These verses are identical to the Messianic verses in 22:20 and 21. Psalm 22:20 Deliver my life from the sword, my only (3173 יָחִיד only) from the power of the dog. (Psalm 22:21) Rescue me from the mouth of the lion; for you answered me and saved me from the horns of the wild oxen. Although Jesus was violently captured, sentenced to death, and crucified, Christ's life was not taken from people. Because Jesus' life was not tainted by original sin, it was more precious and unique than any human life.
