Korea confirms fourth MERS case; 2 more suspected patients isolated 메르스 확진 환자

A fourth case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, has been confirmed here in Korea. And while the health authorities emphasize that there′s low possibility of the virus spreading across the nation,... two more suspected patients were taken to an isolation ward for tests today. Our Han Da-eun has the latest. The fourth MERS patient is the daughter of the third patient. She took care of her hospitalized father until his case was confirmed. The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says... although the daughter has been isolated at her own home since the first MERS case was confirmed last Wednesday,... she seems to have contracted the virus before the isolation. All four patients the father, daughter, the first patient and his wife stayed in the same hospital room for about four hours until the first case was officially confirmed. Less than a day after the fourth case broke out,... two additional patients were also taken to the isolation ward for tests... after developing high fevers and diarrhea. The two new patients are the doctor and nurse of the first patient. The disease control center was quick to assure the public that the virus is not likely to spread across the nation,... as all the cases were contracted from the first patient, at the same hospital. The MERS virus,... which has a fatality rate of around 40 percent,... is relatively new to humans, with only some eleven-hundred cases reported since the first case was confirmed in Saudi Arabia in 2012. There are currently no vaccines or cures available. Han Da-eun, Arirang News.
