September 28 ~ Twenty-sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time In today’s Gospel, the rich man showed no compassion or sense of responsibility for Lazarus, the man who was begging at his gate. He remained indifferent to the pain and hunger surrounding him, concerned only with his own comfort and pleasure. This parable challenges us to examine our own worldview: Do we turn a blind eye to those in need, unwilling to accept our responsibility for the poor, the stranger, and those who suffer around us? The rich man realized his responsibility too late! What will it take for us to truly listen to God’s word, and respond with compassion and care? Recall Christ’s words, “When you did it for one of these least ones. . . you did it for me.” Christ awaits our response!
