This video will explain and teach you how to read the Model Number for Suburban Water heater and Atwood Water heater. The model number of your water heater can tell you whether it is gas or electric or both gas and electric. The model of your water heater can be found on the unit itself. Open the access panel and the model and serial number sticker is on the right-hand side of the unit. Find the model number and watch this video! Note: Atwood heater is also known as Dometic water heater. The short of it: Both Suburban and Atwood run on GAS at bare minimum! Strip water heater model runs on GAS! For Atwood aka Dometic water heaters: The first two letters of the model number will tell you what you have! Example: GC6X-XXX = Gas and Electric Combo C means Combination of gas and electric = uses 110AC to heat up water For Suburban water heaters: Just look for a letter “E” in the model number. E means Electric (uses 110AC to heat up water) Example: SW6DE = last letter is “E”.
