Getting your grip broken in BJJ?

Does your grip feel like one of those arcade claw machines that can’t even pick up a small, stuffed animal? Maybe it’s because you are primarily focusing your grips on the use of your middle, index finger and thumb when gripping the gi. The majority of your grip strength while gripping the gi will non-intuitively come from your PINKY AND RING FINGER COMBINED WITH THE MIDDLE. This is especially true with collar, pistol, and seam grips. This does not mean that your index finger and thumb don’t ever play a role, but one should be focusing on the use of the bottom three fingers when a strong grip is required to hold on. When the primary force comes from the bottom three fingers, you will also be less likely to fatigue when gripping for long periods of time. Most of the time while maintaining a grip, focus on intense contraction only when needed. Don’t burn out your grip by squeezing as hard as you can the whole time - contract with maximal force when when, for example, an opponent is trying to break your grip or you are pulling or controlling posture. Try this out and see if it improves strength of your gi gripping immediately. #teamrenzogracie #gripping #griptraining #clawmachines #kimonojacket #bjjforeveryone #bjjcompetition #stronggrip #invisiblejiujitsu #secretgrip #gitraining
