Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) in Dogs: Bella Recovers from Paralysis
Bella's hind legs became paralysed in March 2019 due to intervertebral disc disease. We have been blessed to help many paralysed pets to walk again over the last few years using acupuncture, physical rehabilitation, laser therapy, veterinary chiropractic and medications. Disc disease can be a very frustrating condition for owner, pet and therapist alike as there is no set time frame of when the pet might start to walk again. The first 6 weeks following paralysis or hind leg weakness is the most crucial time to start neurological rehabilitation as the spinal cord has the ability to regenerate. Some will take steps by themselves in a few weeks and others only after many months and sometimes even years. However, in our experience the majority will walk again so staying positive is a very important aspect of the therapy. Check out the video of Bella's progress. Thank you very much to Justin Serrao for the use of his song “Walk Away”.
