Gospel of the day - Friday, September 26, 2025 - Luke 9:18-22 - Catholic Bible
Welcome to our daily encounter with the Word of God! Today we will reflect on the day's readings, taken from the Book of the Prophet Haggai (Haggai 1:15b–2:9) and the Gospel according to Luke (Luke 9:18–22). These passages invite us to trust in God's promise and recognize in Christ the suffering Messiah who brings us true glory. First Reading (Haggai 1:15b–2:9): The prophet Haggai encourages the people not to lose heart in the face of the difficulties in rebuilding the Temple of Jerusalem. Even though the new house lacks the splendor of the former, the Lord promises: "The glory of this second house will be greater than that of the first." God assures his faithful people of his presence, his peace, and his blessing. This reading teaches us that true glory is not found in material buildings, but in God's presence among us. Even in situations of fragility, He is the one who gives meaning and strength to our journey. Gospel (Luke 9:18-22): Jesus asks his disciples who the people said he was, and then directly asks who they believed he was. Peter responds with faith: “You are the Christ of God.” Jesus then announces his passion, death, and resurrection, showing that his messianic mission involves the cross. This passage challenges us to recognize Jesus not just as a teacher or prophet, but as the Son of God who saves us through his total self-giving. The path to glory passes through sacrifice and faithfulness to the Father. Reflection and Call to Conversion Today's readings invite us to trust in the Lord's promises and to follow Christ authentically, recognizing in him the suffering and glorious Messiah. God's presence gives us strength, and faith in Jesus guides us along the path of the cross toward a full life. May these passages strengthen your hope and inspire your prayer life!
