Homily on the Second Sunday of Lent, Year C: Gen 15:5-12, 17-18, Philippians 3:17—4:1, Luke 9:28b-36

The transfiguration is Christ being transformed and glorifying our humanity so that we can be configured and share in His divinity. His transfiguration offers a glimpse of our destiny in heaven. Just as Paul writes in his letter to the Philippians that “Our citizenship is in heaven,” and Christ will “transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body.” So, Jesus’ transfiguration reveals the glory that awaits us. A glory that is rooted in His passion, death, and resurrection—in total obedience to the Father for our sake. So to “listen to Him” is to join His mission by proclaiming the Law of Love that defines the Kingdom of God. A love that redeems and transforms us. A love that binds and heals our brokenness.
