Saffron Walden (Just as I am, without one plea) - Arr. Noel Rawsthorne - practice!
This lovely melody comes from Arthur Henry Brown, an early 20th century organist. Notably, Brown is said to have been self taught, and despite this, was a parish organist in Essex, Romford, South Weald and then later at a school, for some 80+ years. Along with hymns, Brown also arranged canticles, mass settings and anthems, while also editing hymnbooks, and driving plainchant and Gregorian music back to the Anglican services. We still have over 120 hymns from Brown available to us today. The Rawsthorne arrangement here is simply delightful, and adds to an already beautiful hymn. I thoroughly enjoy both playing, as well as listening to this hymn and the interpretation. I trust you too enjoy. ____________________ Performed on the Salisbury Cathedral sampleset by Milan Digital Audio, using the Hauptwerk VPO platform.
