PMQs: Starmer braced for BRUTAL Commons brawl over Mandelson scandal

Watch live from the House of Commons as Sir Keir Starmer is hauled back for a second bruising showdown this week amid the intensifying row over the vetting of Lord Peter Mandelson. Today’s Prime Minister’s Questions lands after former Foreign Office chief Sir Olly Robbins accused No 10 of a “dismissive approach” to security checks and described an “atmosphere of pressure” to push through Lord Mandelson’s appointment as UK ambassador to the United States. Sir Keir told MPs on Monday that he had confronted Sir Olly about why he went against UK Security Vetting (UKSV) advice—and made clear he did not accept the explanation. Sir Olly, however, insisted it is standard practice not to share detailed vetting findings and said he felt under pressure to clear the peer for the post. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband revealed he feared the appointment would “blow up” and raised concerns with then–foreign secretary David Lammy. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has also taken aim at decisions made throughout the Mandelson saga.
