18-Wheeler Accident Closes Stretch of I-40
UPDATE: All lanes are back open at Mile Marker 17 on I-40 East. UPDATE (7:35 A.M.) The right lane is closed at Mile Marker 17 on I-40 East between the Tennessee state line and Clyde, due to an overturned tractor trailer. The left lane has reopened, but continue to expect heavy delays. The lane is expected to re-open today at approximately 5:00 pm. ALTERNATE ROUTE: From Tennessee follow I-81 North until reaching I-26 in Johnson City, TN. Take Exit 57-A for I-26 East. Continue on I-26 East until reaching I-240 in Asheville. Take I-240 East then use Exit 8 to re-access I-40 East at Exit 53. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All lanes of I-40 East are currently closed at Mile Marker 17, between the Tennessee state line and Clyde. This is due to an overturned tractor trailer. The road is expected to re-open later this morning. Motorists are advised to expect heavy delays and use caution while traveling in the area. The accident happened just before 5 a.m. and one person was transported to the hospital. DETOUR: All traffic should use the following detour route: From Tennessee follow I-81 North from the I-40/I-81 split until reaching I-26 near Johnson City, TN. Take Exit 57-A for I-26 East. Continue on I-26 East until reaching I-240 in Asheville.
