"The House Of The Rising Sun" in the style of The Animals
My rendition of this song that was originally recorded by Clarence "Tom" Ashley and Gwen Foster on September 6th, 1933 on the Vocalion label under the title "Rising Sun Blues". The Animals recorded their version on May 18th, 1964 at De Lane Lea Studios in London, England, produced by Mickie Most. The song was released as a single first in the UK on the Columbia label on June 19th, 1964, with B-side "Talkin' 'Bout You". The song hit number 1 on the UK pop singles chart in July, before it entered the Billboard Hot 100 top 40 on August 15th, charting for 10 weeks, and topping that chart on September 5th, where it stayed for 3 weeks. It was released on the MGM label in the US. It was their first US top 40 pop hit. It was included on their September 1964 US debut album, The Animals. The songwriting credit for the Animals' version was given as Traditional, with arrangement by Alan Price, but it was truly an effort by the entire band, with Price named because his first name came first alphabetically.
