Three Week Investigation Nets Drugs, Cash, Weapons
Metro police team up with Smyrna Police, the Maury County Sheriff's Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration to win a significant battle in the war on drugs. Monday authorities learned a large shipment of pot was being shipped to Nashville from Alabama. Police agencies combined forces, following the suspect truck by air before the THP moved in to make the traffic stop. Police recovered more than 2-hundred pounds of marijuana, 1-point-3-million dollars cash and 22 weapons. Eight people were arrested in connection with the crime including three members of the same family. Authorities found most of the money and drugs at the Maury County farm of alleged mastermind Jerry Lee Tuttle, 63. Tuttle's wife Tammy Ann was also arrested along with his 44-year-old son Christopher Lee Tuttle of Smyrna. Five other suspects were also arrested in the case, most of them from Nashville. Authorities say this case which was the culmination of a 3-week investigation is a good example of cooperation among the various agencies.
