Hand Drill Fire Friction Fire in the Snow
Alaska Matt demonstrates how to make a friction fire using the Primitive Hand Drill... in the snow... uphill... both ways... But seriously Matt shows you a hand drill technique you can use, using a third stick to pin the fireboard to the snowy ground, rather than using his wet boot. Matt is also at about 9500 feet in elevation, making breathing and combustion that much more difficult. He is also using recently snowed on tinder that has dried out a little bit throughout the day.
