Now is a great time to start raising your cool season

Now is a great time to start raising your cool season veggies if you live in a cool temperate climate. Here are some Seed Raising Tips🌱 🌱Start by choosing a good quality seed raising mix. It needs to be a light and fluffy mix that drains well but allows the retention of moisture and promotes airflow. I use the excellent range from @scotts_au 🌱You can use the seed raising mix directly, or make your own super blend. I use 2 parts seed raising mix and 1 part premium potting mix. I also add a handful of perlite or vermiculite to assist with holding water and promote airflow around the root system (Optional). This blend will also feed your seedlings as they mature due to the rich organic matter in the premium potting mix. 🌱 Mix it all together and fill your containers or cells almost to the surface. Pre water the mix lightly and press it down gently to remove any air pockets. 🌱Place 2 or 3 seeds on the surface of the mix to improve your odds of germination. Cover them lightly with the seed raising mix, approx twice the depth of the seeds size as a general guideline. Don’t forget to label and date your containers. 🌱Water or mist the cells gently, being careful not to disturb the soil. Place them in a well lit protected area or your green house. Ensure the soil remains damp at all times but not waterlogged. 🌱Your seeds should emerge in 5 - 10 days. Once they germinate, flood them with lots of light to prevent them from becoming leggy. Thin out any weak seedlings as required. 🌱They are generally ready for the garden when they are easy enough to handle and have developed their true set of leaves.
