Tennis elbow is a form of elbow tendonitis. This is a painful condition that occurs when tendons in your elbow are overworked and inflamed. This is caused by repetitive motions of the hand and arm. Despite the name, tennis elbow can occur in people who don't play tennis (even though it is a common injury among tennis players). People who do a lot of repetitive motions, either through working out in the gym or doing physically demanding labor work, often get tennis elbow (i.e. mechanics, carpenters, painters, butchers, plumbers, etc.) The pain of tennis elbow occurs primarily where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to a bony bump on the outside of your elbow. Pain can also spread into your forearm and wrist. The key to treating tennis elbow is to avoid further straining of the aggravated tendons. Wearing a tennis elbow brace can help support the tendons and keep them in proper alignment, which often reduces pain and discomfort.
