Splashdown! Artemis II crew return to Earth after historic moon mission

After hurtling through the Earth's atmosphere, the Orion capsule has safely landed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego. NASA had expected the capsule to reach speeds of up to 23,839 mph (38,365 kph) upon its re-entry to Earth's atmosphere. The capsule released nearly a dozen parachutes to aid its descent, safely decelerating the 21,000-pound spacecraft from high speeds to roughly 20mph for splashdown. It brings an end to what has been a record-breaking 10-day mission to the far side of the moon for Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen.
