Simple Marionette Manipulation

The Squeaking Tribe has been making 1000's of marionettes of various sizes and designs since 1996. Their simple 6-string designs are easily the most accessible and popular format for the budding puppeteer or anyone, really, with a range of tricks which belie their basic stringing technique. This short video shows the first few steps in getting familiar with the weight and movement before experimenting with more complicated manipulation options. A couple of tips... try keeping a beat and dance them to a variety of music styles. Also, performing in front of a portable mirror will help to develop body memory skills and give the added bonus of an audience's perspective and not one limited to the puppeteer's line of sight.
