What's The Impact of "DFL Tax Increase"?

House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says the tax increase passed last year by the legislature was not responsible for the getting Minnesota's budget out of a deficit. Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk responds saying he'll "take the bait" and says the tax increase allowed Minnesota to invest in education and an educated workforce is what ultimately attracts and keeps businesses in Minnesota. Senate Minority Leader David Hann counters that instead of spending more money on education, the legislature should question why the cost of education is going up so much and do something about that. The income tax increase that passed last year's session was a DFL priority to fix the budget deficit and pay back schools for money that had been borrowed over several previous years. The exchange came a few days before the beginning of the 2014 legislative session as the legislative leaders answered questions from the press.
