Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a 2D side-scrolling platformer from the famous Super Mario series, released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023. After nearly 11 years, the game brings fresh ideas, including the “Wonder Flowers” that change levels in surprising ways – from floating players in space to transforming pipes. The development team at Nintendo EPD didn’t have such a generous budget and took their time to perfect the game with innovative gameplay, vibrant animations, and unique sound design. In addition to Mario and Luigi, you can also play as Peach, Daisy, Toad, various Yoshis, and Mopsey. Character abilities are now selectable through “Badges” that grant special powers. The overworld is no longer linear, offering open areas where players can freely choose which level and secret to explore first. The game features a co-op mode without collisions, putting teamwork at the forefront. The story revolves around Bowser, who merges with Prince Florian’s castle through a Wonder Flower, causing chaos.
