The Russian delegation led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinski arrived in Istanbul on Sunday, ahead of the second round of peace talks with Ukraine. Footage shows Medinski and Russian representatives disembarking from the airplane and shaking hands with the welcoming delegation, being followed by the journalists before getting into a car. On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Kiev's participation in the talks in a post on Telegram. He added that Defence Minister Rustem Umerov will lead the delegation. On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the proposal for holding a second meeting between Russian and Ukrainian representatives on June 2 in Istanbul. That same day, Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov announced he had handed Russia a memorandum outlining Kiev's position and confirmed that the country was ready for a 'ceasefire and further diplomatic work'. The first direct talks between Moscow and Kiev since 2022 were held in Istanbul on May 16. During the negotiations, the parties agreed to exchange '1,000 for 1,000' prisoners of war and present their visions of a potential ceasefire.
